Improving the onset potential and Tafel slope determination of earth-abundant water oxidation electrocatalysts

To date, a plethora of electrocatalysts for the Oxygen Evolution Reaction (OER) have been proposed. For evaluating their electrocatalytic behavior determination onset potential in each studied electrolyte is key parameter. Nevertheless, this evaluation becomes particularly problematic first-transition metal catalysts as well by use electroactive collectors (e.g. Ni foams) whose redox peaks overlap potential. A usual solution to detect requires availability in-situ mass spectrometric generated oxygen. In work, we present fast and easier available cyclic voltammetry coulovoltammetric responses determine potentials three benchmark electrocatalysts: layered double hydroxide, Prussian blue analogue ?-Layered hydroxide. Cyclic allow, demonstrate here, quantitative separation same range charge consumed reversible (redox) reactions irreversible reaction: oxygen release. Quantifying charges (that correspond OER) different anodic limits permits unambiguous both, Tafel slope values without catalyst contributions. As far know, first time that fast, cheap methodology has applied OER determination. Thus, coulovoltammetry arises friendly powerful tool investigation performances.
